Navy Seal, Logan Alexander, is trying to put his life back together following a career-ending injury in Afghanistan, when he learns that his younger brother, Cooper, has been killed in an ambush while on patrol with his Ranger unit in Iraq. As Alexander delves into the circumstances leading to Cooper’s death, he learns of the role that the secret arm of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Qods Force, plays in exporting terror. Alexander vows to avenge his brother’s death. With the financial backing of a Kuwaiti billionaire, and a group of like-minded Special Forces operatives, Alexander conceives a plan that takes his team to the Sonora Desert, Europe, and the Middle East, where he comes face-to-face with the man responsible for Cooper’s death.

Logan Alexander suffered a bad knee injury after being injured by an IED in Afghanistan. The injury ended his naval career and he was thrown out of Seal Tem 8. His brother, Cooper, an Army Ranger, was killed by an IED in Iraq. Zahir, an Iraqi interpreter, was Cooper’s girlfriend. She lost her job as when it became known that she and Cooper were fraternizing in violation of policy. She is now pregnant with his child.

Many of the IEDs killing and wounding American soldiers were developed and tested in an Iranian facility. Iran denies this of course but they are even training foreign surrogates at this facility. Logan decides that he has to do something about the IEDs and make those responsible pay for Cooper’s death. Logan assembles a team to go to Iran and destroy the research and training camp. They spend a lot of time training but the actual fight was very anticlimactic.

Overall the book was OK, but not great. I think the main problem is that Logan isn’t a particularly deep character and by the end of the book we still know very little about him. I don’t think that I would classify this book as a thriller because there are no twists or surprises; the story is very straightforward. Finally, I found the relationship between Logan and Zahir a bit disturbing.

Cooper Revenge edition by T L Williams Emily Carmain Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

If you haven't figured it out already often reviews are written by friends and family of the author which I believe is the case here.

Many of the reviews suggest that the book is a "Thriller" but that is no where near what this book is. Thrillers have twist and turns and attempt to keep you trying to figure out what is going to happen next. This book had none of that. There was only one instance in the book that I said "I did not see that coming".

Another reviewer suggested that the main character in the book is similar to "Mitch Rapp" from the Vince Flynn series and nothing could be further from the truth. Mitch Rapp is a assassin that tracks and kills terrorists around the globe. Logan Alexander (the main character) never kills one person in this book.

The bottom line is the author of the book appears very knowledgeable about the middle east and their culture. I think he would do better with non fiction because this book was a real snoozer.
I'd be the first to admit that price should not be a consideration in writing a book review. And Cooper's revenge is a great book entirely on its own merit. It is a fascinating story with a few unexpected twists and turns. It involves our Middle East conflict which makes it topical and even more interesting. It is written by a former CIA operative who clearly knows a lot about the territory covered in the book. It discloses information, admittedly in a novel so the facts are not definite but there is enough publicly known knowledge to suggest it is more truth than fiction. In short a compelling read that I would highly recommend in any event.
Aside from the political relevance it is a remarkably well written and entertaining story. I read it over the course of two days only because I had a lot of other things to do during that time. Otherwise it would have been read cover to cover in just one sitting. Once you start it is hard to leave the story other than perhaps for a quick snack or something to drink. I really enjoyed the main character, Logan Alexander, and not just because we share a name (My middle name is Logan). He is a true tough as nails American hero. I suspect we will meet Logan again in future adventures and I'm looking forward to it.
But in truth I found the chief villian in the story even more fascinating. Col. Ghabel was clearly a bad guy and twice in the story exhibited the kind of brutal viciousness we would expect from a bad guy. Yet on other instances, namely in his relationship with his wife, his concern and caring when her father died, and in his sympathetic approach to dealing with problems the wife of a soldier who had died under his command was having with authorities he demonstrated a very human and caring side. So like most people he was in fact very complex and a combination of bad and good. I'd love to discuss this character with the author!
And guess what? I will get a chance to do just that since I will interview Terry Williams on my blog radio show, "Books and Politics," on July 15th. Be sure and listen in at www.blogtalkradio.com/angelsandwarriors. The show starts promptly at 7 p.m. California time. I'd suggest buying and reading the book before the show so you can call in and ask Terry specific questions about the book, about Iran, and about the Middle East.
But back to the title of this review The fact that Cooper's Revenge is available for download on for just 99 cents seems too good not to mention. I believe it would be a great bargain at $3.99 or $4.99 so anyone reading this would be insane not to snap it up for just 99 cents.
Bottom line Great book, great value, buy it now!
